If you are reading this post, Alhamdulillah, you are blessed with another holy month of Ramadan! Ramadan is an excellent opportunity to reset spiritually, recharge our objectives, and commit to forming new habits and maintaining good acts beyond the end of the month. Ramadan is entirely a special month for muslims all around the world, but there is greater significance and value in the last 10 nights of this month. The reason behind this is that among these nights one of them is Laylat-ul-qadar. In the Quran, it is written about this holy night that:

“We feel it (this Qur’an) down on a blessed night.”   [al-Dukhan 44:3]

Understanding More About Laylatul-qadar:

Laylatul-qadar also called the Night of Power is a highly honored night in the Islamic calendar. During this time, Angel Jibril delivered the first verses of the Holy Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) While the precise day of revelation is unknown, each night provides significant blessings. The night of Laylatul-qadar comes within Ramadan’s final ten days. However, nobody knows the precise date, it is often regarded as the 27th night of Ramadan. The muslim are urged to seek this night during the last ten odd nights of the holy month, as the Prophet (PBUH did). The Prophet (PBUH) is believed to have said:

“Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten days of Ramadan.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

What To Do on Laylatul-qadar?

When it comes to virtuous deeds and acts there are several things you may do on this blessed night to increase your benefits and rewards. We have listed some of these below.

Read the Holy Quran with Meaning

During Ramadan and throughout the year, a lot of us recite the Holy Qur’an without realizing what we are reading. Take some time tonight to understand the significance of the Holy Qur’an by reading its meaning as this is the night when the first words of guidance were revealed. While reading the Quran you can also come across many duas to read on laylatul qadr that can increase your blessings.

Give Charity to Help Others

Allah (SWT) highly praises the act of giving and promotes it throughout the Islamic Month of Ramadan. If the benefits and blessings received through giving during this month are so significant, imagine what the rewards will be on the Holy night of Laylatul Qadr, also called Shab-e-qadr.

Whether you decide to support someone by giving your time or money, giving to Sadaqah Jariyah in the memory of a departed loved one, or giving your Zakat, make sure you contribute as much as you can on this holy night. Even the slightest act of generosity, such as offering someone anything to eat or smiling at another person, is also considered an act of charity in Islam.

Perform I’tikaaf

If you are thinking how to pray during Laylat-ul-Qadr, the Messenger of Allah Muhammed (PBUH) used to dedicate the last ten days of Ramadan in I’tikaaf in the Masjid. I’tikaaf is the act of staying in the Masjid for an extended length of time to pray and do Dhikr. Dhikr means spiritual prayers/remembrance of Allah (SWT). I’tikaf can offer you immense enjoyment, refreshment, calm, peace of mind and spirit. The beloved wife (Aisha RA) of Prophet (PBUH) said:

The Prophet (PBUH) would not enter his house for anything except for a need when he was observing Itikaaf.” al-Bukhari (2029)

Make Dua to Get Allah’s Blessings

Our supplications in the last ten days of holy month of Ramadan are very noteworthy. It is important to know the dua for laylatul qadr night so that you can get more blessings on this powerful night.

The Prophet (PBUH) said

“Dua is the essence of worship.” [Tirmidhi]
It is important to understand that in these final ten days of Ramadan, Allah (SWT) liberally enhances the rewards you obtain for your worship. We have listed few duas for laylatul-qadr.

Duas for Laylatul-qadr

Best Dua for Laylatul-qadr

The first dua is one of the most significant dua for Shab e qadr. It is important to recite this dua every night in the last 10 days of Ramadan. By reading this qadr night dua you can get Allah’s (SWT) mercy and forgiveness.

الْلَّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibb al- ‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni

“O Allah, you are the Most forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.”

Dua for Guidance

Allah (SWT) is exceptionally near to us during the last ten days of Ramadan and hears our duas with satisfaction for our efforts towards Him, so why not take this time to seek guidance?

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الهُدَى وَ التُّقَى وَ العَفَافَ وَ الغِنَى

Allāhumma Innī As’aluka al-Hudā Wat-Tuqā Wal-Afāfa Wal-Ghinā

O Allah, I ask You for guidance and piety, and abstinence (from the unlawful) and modesty, and contentment and sufficiency.

Dua For Wisdom

The duas are not limited to laylatul qadr dua. It is good to recite multiple duas, as they can be accepted on the holy night. Reciting a dua for wisdom during the final ten days of Ramadan is an excellent approach to asking Allah for the knowledge we require to be true to Islam and safeguard our human brothers and sisters.

اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي وَ عَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْف َعُنِي وَ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Allaahum-manfa’nee bimā ‘allamtanee wa ‘allimnee mā yanfa’unee wa zidnee ‘ilmā

O Allah, benefit me with what You have taught me, and teach me that which will benefit me, and increase my knowledge.

Conclusion

Remember, on this auspicious night, we must make the most of our benefits while we can. Refrain from day-to-day activities like watching TV and engaging in insignificant worldly behaviors. Use these nights to pray to Allah, donate as much as you can, read S hab-e-Qadr dua, and generate an endless number of blessings for your Akhirah (the Hereafter).
